Cortisol is a steroid hormone and is best known for it’s involvement in the ‘Fight or flight’ response and temporary increase in energy production. With our ever stressed, fast paced lifestyle our bodies are pumping out Cortisol almost constantly which can wreaks havoc on our health. This can lead to adrenal fatigue which presents as chronic fatigue syndrome, also infections, headaches and aches and pains.
Abdominal fat cells have four times as many receptors for Cortisol than anywhere else in the body. So if your continually stressed you will store extra fat around your mid line.
Obeying natural rhythms of sleep and rest will help as well as avoiding caffeine, sugar, tobacco and low blood sugar, as they create emergency situations within our system and signals stress.
